There are indications that the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) may go along with the proposal currently being spearheaded by the rival National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) that the 15 seats that would be contested for in the governing council of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) should be shared among the five registered freight forwarding associations.
This indication was given on Monday by the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA; Mr Joe Sani when he spoke on Shipping Position Live on Star FM in Lagos. He said ANLCA was still open for discussions on the election which is billed for Abuja on June 29, 2018.
"On the issue of allocating of positions, it is not a bad idea at all, at least considering the very precarious situation that ANLCA has found herself"
The development also coincides with the information that the Registrar of CRFFN; Sir Mike Jukwe may have relocated to Lagos to seek further discussions with the associations.
Shipping Position Daily confirmed that there will be series of meetings to streamline arrangements for the elections.
Our correspondent learnt that the Registrar is under pressure to move the elections to Lagos and as accept the sharing of seats among the five registered associations.
Sir Jukwe had earlier confirmed to our correspondent that he would be spending the whole of this week in Lagos in connection with the CRFFN Governing Council elections.
But, while speaking on the level of preparation by ANLCA, the association’s spokesperson; Mr Sani blamed ANLCA for not doing what it ought to have done, that is, registering of members stressing. He however attributed this to the fact that ANLCA had two separate court cases against the CRFFN.
"We found ourselves in this problem, I want to emphasize that ANLCA was not doing what other associations were doing, that is required of them which is registering of members regularly. And this is simply because there are two cases in court that ANLCA instituted.
He also confirmed that a meeting has been scheduled for today (Wednesday). “There is a meeting scheduled for today (Wednesday) and that meeting will take place in Apapa based on the information that I have", he said.
Asked if ANLCA would partake in the elections, the National Publicity Secretary said that would depend on the outcome of today’s election.
Mr Sani also debunked the insinuation that the association deliberately refused to attend the meeting that was initiated by the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders for the registered associations to consider sharing the 15 Council seats among themselves instead of going for election.
“Nobody invited us, of course invitation these days is not just by telephone, you have to put in a document to show that you are being invited to meeting ,and I don't think we had that opportunity", he explained.
