Two men, Olatunji Olaoluwa, and Sodiq Olayemi,  on Monday appeared in a Badagry Magistrates’ Court in Lagos State for alleged impersonation of naval officers.

The police arraigned Olaoluwa, 39 and Olayemi, 24, on a three count-charge of impersonation, assault and breach of peace.

They, however, pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecutor, ASP. Akpan Ikem, the defendants committed the offence on June 6 at 7:30 a.m. at Car Wash Bus Stop in Badagry.

Ikem said that the two men paraded themselves as naval officers to the public, knowing same to be false.

‘The defendants also conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause a breach of the peace by copying the force number and name of Sgt. Sebastine Okouludo, attached to the Morogbo Police Division.

“They also assaulted the Okouludo by using a Suzuki mini bus with registration, number No AAA517XX, to hit his right leg, while performing his lawful duty.

The offences  contravened Sections 77, 166 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Patrick Adekomaiya, admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties in like sum.

He adjourned the case until July 8.
