Officials of an international software company; Vestracker has explained why it is training freight forwarders operating in Nigeria on modern Information Technology Communication (ICT).
The company’s top official said that the essence of training Nigerians in ICT is to ensure that they meet internationally acceptable standards and for them to operate a seamless transaction.
Speaking with our correspondent recently, co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Vestracker, Mr. Osam Kyemenu Sarsah disclosed that there was a huge gap in the area of information technology in freight forwarding practice in Nigeria, hence the company’s decision to partake in the training.
He said that the training was designed for practitioners on how to use the company’s software, adding that Nigerian freight agents need to build capacity in the area of ICT.
He said the benefit of the ICT training is to make the freight forwarders transform from the analogue style of doing business to become more organised practitioners that can meet with international best practice.
He said when the industry is docile; it affects productivity in the entire sub region, considering the fact that Nigeria is the hub of maritime activities.
According to him, the company is not only interested in selling its brand of products worldwide, but also to train practitioners to perform better in their respective businesses.
Sarsah pointed out that apart from the products, it will be of great advantage if the practitioner keys into the training and get a better understanding of the software.
He added that increasing the capacity of practitioner will make the ecosystem to grow and make the freight agents better organised, even among their foreign counterparts.
