Maritime Academy Commissions Port Harcourt Study Centre

The Maritime Academy of Nigeria (MAN), Oron has commissioned its Port Harcourt Study Centre, first of its kind, through the institution’s Directorate of Consultancy Services
The Study Centre was inaugurated under the chairmanship of a  university don, Chief Zeb Isaac Obipi last Friday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Obipi described Port Harcourt as a major maritime hub and the headquarters of oil and gas operations in Nigeria.

The Study Centre was inaugurated under the chairmanship of a  university don, Chief Zeb Isaac Obipi last Friday.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chief Obipi described Port Harcourt as a major maritime hub and the headquarters of oil and gas operations in Nigeria.
Obipi said the commissioning of the centre was in the right direction because it is the home to many functional ports receiving ships on International trade, adding that it is also home to several shipping and related companies and host to several companies operating in the up and down stream sectors of the oil and gas industry which are largely dependent on maritime services.
He commended the Governing Council of Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron for their visionary leadership and enjoined the people of Rivers State and neighbouring states to take advantage of the opportunity and patronage of the institution by utilising the training programmes at the Port Harcourt Centre.
According to him, many mandatory maritime short courses currently offered at the academy are available for companies and industries at reduced transportation costs and with greater flexibility advantages for companies’ manpower development plans.
Also speaking, the chairman of the Governing Council of the Academy, Oron, Chief Mike Adiotomre said it is the policy of the council to continue to improve on the quality of maritime education and training at the Academy, as well as extend its services to areas of high demand, hence the commissioning of Port Harcourt Centre.
Chief Adiotomre noted that the Academy in Oron is well known for its high standards of training under several international accreditations, and called on companies and maritime practitioners to avail themselves of the opportunities for qualitative and standard training at the Port Harcourt Study Centre.
In his speech, the Rector of the Institution, Mr Joshua Okpo said as  part of its principal mandates, the academy has taken its services closer to the areas of need through the establishment of the Directorate of Consultancy Services with full approval from the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, the Federal Ministry of Transport and the Governing Council of the Academy.
“The Maritime Academy of Nigeria Oron remains the only statutory established maritime institution with the capacity to deliver a one-stop maritime education and training solution currently”, Okpo said, stressing, “Port Harcourt has become the first centre to be commissioned and benefit from the Academy’s high standards of training on its own merit as a major maritime zone in Nigeria”.
