The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service yesterday released its first half, 2014 performance report, in which it disclosed that it intercepted petroleum products and other items within the inland waterways within the period under review.
The command also had a total of 2,298 seizures with a duty paid value of N24, 109,892.90k from January to June 2014.

In a statement made available to Shipping Position Daily, yesterday, Public Relations Officer of the command, Ngozi Okwarra, quoted the command’s area controller; Comptroller Zakka Audu as saying that these items seized were got from smugglers while trying to circumvent the policy of the federal government of Nigeria by avoiding the appropriate channel which is the seaport.
