The Director General, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Malam Farouk Salim, has restated the organization`s commitment to ensuring that substandard goods do not find their way into the country.
Salim made the commitment on Wednesday at the 42nd Kaduna International Trade Fair holding in Kaduna.
The theme of this year`s fair is: ‘Promoting Domestic Production to Mitigate the Current Economic Challenges’.
Salim was represented by the North West Regional Coordinator of SON, Mr Usman Muhammad.
He urged importers to always consult SON for quality control guidelines before importing goods into Nigeria.
“This will give their products certificate of free sales without unnecessary hindrances from different regulatory agencies”, he said.
Salim added that SON has the mandate of ensuring that goods consumed in Nigeria were of the same quality as goods consumed in the countries where they were imported.
He cautioned importers to always follow all the quality control guidelines set down by SON when importing any product into the country.

The SON boss added: “We have two policies which are the MANCAP for made in Nigeria products and the SONCAP for imported products”.
“We want people to be sure whenever they are consuming these goods that they would not harm them while also getting value for the money spent on these product”.
Salim stressed that in line with their mandate, the organisation would continue to take out substandard products even if it succeeded in going into warehouses.
“This is why we are moving from warehouse to warehouse, market to market, roads to borders to be sure that nobody leaves these points with substandard products into the country”.
He noted that SON has a properly equipped laboratory for testing quality, characteristics of products and those found to be substandard would be recalled.
Salim assured importers and manufacturers of the organisation’s commitment to creating enabling environment for businesses to thrive and warned importers to desist from illicit trade in substandard products.
