AUTO POLICY:

The National Automotive Council (NAC) yesterday signed 11.6 Euros (N2.44 billion) contract with three companies to procure, install and train Nigerians on automotive testing laboratories.
NAC’s Director-General, Mr Aminu Jalal, while signing on behalf of the council, gave the companies as Mssrs Mustang Advanced Engineering/Afram Nigeria limited, Mssrs AVL Austria and Mssrs AVS/Artec Testnology, Netherland.

The National Automotive Council (NAC) yesterday signed 11.6 Euros (N2.44 billion) contract with three companies to procure, install and train Nigerians on automotive testing laboratories.
NAC’s Director-General, Mr Aminu Jalal, while signing on behalf of the council, gave the companies as Mssrs Mustang Advanced Engineering/Afram Nigeria limited, Mssrs AVL Austria and Mssrs AVS/Artec Testnology, Netherland.
He said the equipment were for emission testing laboratory which would be established in Lagos; component testing laboratory in Enugu and vehicle evaluation laboratory in Zaria.
Jalal explained that the laboratories were critical elements in the implementation of the National Automotive Industrial plan.
According to him, the laboratories are designated as centres for excellence in automobile engineering for learning, research and to open the way for components and parts manufacturing in the country.
Jalal said the laboratories would ensure that vehicles in Nigeria conformed to safety and environmental regulations as well as safety and good health for Nigerians.
Jalal said the equipment would develop local automotive content and ensure good operation and maintenance of Nigerian vehicles.
He said they would also obtain the capability to conduct homologation comprehensive tests on vehicles.
Earlier, the NAC Board Chairman; Mr Tunde Zedomi had expressed appreciation for the signing of the contract.
According to him, when established, the laboratories will fast-track the development of the nation’s automobile sector.
Zedomi urged the contractors to ensure the execution of all the contract agreements within the stipulated time.
The time frame given to the companies to establish the laboratories was 36 weeks.
Managing Director of AVL; Mr Gerolf Strohmeier and the Vice President of Mustang; Mr Eser Manav signed on behalf of the companies.
