WMC Intercepts 3,526 Cartons Of Poultry Products in Two Days

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has said that the command intercepted 3526 cartons of poultry products in two days.

The seized poultry products is estimated to have a Duty Paid Value of  N3,196,326,000.

The command  also said that since the introduction of operation "Hawk Descend" by the Comptroller General of Customs, the command has taken the lead in the area of intercepting poultry products ;describing it as a landmark seizures recorded so far.

The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Umar Yusuf made this known on Wednesday at the command during the destruction of 3221 cartons of the smuggled items.

Umar noted that a large number of poultry products were intercepted in two days operations, adding that two suspects were nabbed in the process.

The command's boss pointed out that the items were seized between the 3rd and 4th of August 2015.

According to him, August 4th seizures were recorded 3221, while on previous day, 305 seizures were made, which totaled 3526.

He recalled that: "On Tuesday 7th of July 2015, at Seme border command, the Comptroller General of Customs launched an operation to fight illegal importation of frozen poultry products code name "operation hawk descend"

"This launch has indeed geared the officers and men of Western Marine Command to go all out in fighting activities on the waterways"

"Since the land borders have been manned adequately by officers and men in the border station.

“We have from time to time warned smugglers through different media that are in effective control of our waterways in the western region of the country.

He said the goods were intercepted between Yekeme Akere and Badagry axis noting that his confronted aggressive resistance from villagers within the communities where the items were intercepted.  

Meanwhile the two suspects identified themselves as Mr. Fashina Abubakar and Ojo James.
