Boat Mishap: Group To Establish Life Jacket Manufacturing Plant

A group under the aegis of AMBSAM Memorial Foundation says it will establish a life jacket manufacturing plant in honour of five boat mishap victims in the state.
The Coordinator of the Foundation, Chief Tunji Abass said this at a news conference at Alausa on the activities lined up for the formal launch of the foundation on March 28.
The five victims died in a boat mishap on March 28, 2015 in Epe area of Lagos State.
Abass said the victims met their tragic death while on an assignment to monitor the 2015 Presidential and National Assembly election exercise conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said that the planned manufacturing plant, when operational, would produce only quality and efficient life jackets.
According to him, the foundation is named after the victims and has some long term projects in view.
He said one of them was to establish a memorial park with a state-of-the-art swimming pool for members of the community to learn how to swim.
Abass said that the foundation would distribute about 100 life jackets to residents during the formal launch.
He said they would also embark on aggressive and massive mobilisation of waterways users and operators and enlighten them on international best practices and safety tips.
Abass said that the foundation would partner with elected representatives on enactment of laws that would help improve operations on the waterways.
He said the basic objectives of the Foundation include immortalising the victims of the said boat mishap and catering for the upkeep of their immediate dependants.
Abass said that the Foundation would also be a platform to provide succour to the less privileged in the Epe Division and beyond who might have suffered similar fate.
