The Association of Maritime Transport Owners (AMARTO) has accused the Joint Council of Seaport Truck Operators (JCOST) of using the body to fight for their own personal interest instead of fighting for the good of the association.
The association said this last week in Lagos at the meeting of the Amalgamation of Trucking Association with others in Maritime Industry.
Speaking at the event, the president of AMARTO; Chief Remi Ogungbemi, who pleaded the need for truckers to have a common body also moved the motion for the dissolution of the JCOST executives and the formation of another umbrella body of all truckers to be known as Amalgamation of Trucking Association.
Speaking at the event he said: “There is need for us to consolidate and have a common ground. That was the main reason why JCOST was formed but unfortunately, JCOST has failed us. The body is now being used to tackle interest that is not for the general good of the association. Let today be the beginning of the good things that will start happening is this association. I am urging the committee that organized this forum to be the steering committee that will help us organize another election that will usher in a new executives that will revive the body. We are dissolving JCOST because they are not living up to the expectations we are inaugurating a new steering committee with the name, Amalgamation of Trucking Association” he concluded.
