Even as the Federal Government is yet to officially announce a cut in the pump price of petroleum products, the two unions in the oil and gas sector have thrown their weight behind the planned cut.
Leaders of both Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers Union (NUPENG) declared that the idea was a good one.
Representatives of the unions in separate interviews told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the plan was good, provided that the government would carry the people along in its decision.
The reactions were sequel to the announcement by the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Alhaji Rilwanu Lukman, that the prices of the products would soon be reduced.
General- Secretary of PENGASSAN, Mr. Bayo Olowoshile told NAN that the announcement was welcomed because it would “lift some weight from the purse of Nigerians”.
