The Lagos Channel Management (LCM), a dredging company has inaugurated a multi-purpose sports court at King Ado High School in Isale Eko area of Lagos.
Prince Ifalade Oyekan, LCM Human Resources Manager, said at the inauguration that the sports facility was part of the company’s social responsibility toward the development of the state.
Oyekan said that the multi-purpose sports court would be used by both the senior and junior students of King Ado High School.
“I am happy that this has come into reality, this initiative is part of the company’s various contributions to give back to the society.
“We know the importance of combining education with sporting activities and we know this will go a long way to engage the students meaningfully.
“I am from Isake Eko and am very delighted that this project is initiated by me, all to the glory of God,’’ he said.
The Principal of the school, Iyun Oladunjoye, appreciated the company and the facilitator, saying that the multi-purpose court would boost sporting activities in the school.
Oladunjoye said the gesture would help to balance the three core domain of education in the school.
“This is a wonderful gesture towards the school to promote complete education for the students, it is a welcome development and we are grateful.
“It will enable the student to have the total domain of education which are cognitive, affective and sync motive.
“ It is a wonderful work to complement the good work of the Lagos State Government and this is the first of its kind in the entire District 3, which is Lagos Island,’’ he said.
The principal said that measures have been put in place to maintain the facility for long-term usage.
“We have a three-man committee set up for this to ensure a proper use of the facility, it will be time for the students to use and showcase their skills and other schools in the district can also have access to it.
“This will help to produce future Atanda Yusuf, Olumide Oyedeji, and other notable sportsmen and women who excelled in their various field,’’ he said.
Also, the Tutor General and Permanent Secretary of District 3, Titi Solarin, thanked the company for associating with the district to construct the court.
Solarin, who was represented by Samuel Oyebisi, the Director of School Administrator of District 3, urged other organisation and industrious individuals from Isale Eko to emulate LCM gesture.
“A project like this will provide the student the opportunity to utilise their time effectively out of class and we are happy that it will serve a lot of purpose,’’ he said.
The court was named “Oba Adeyinka Oyekan Multi-purpose Sports Court.”
District 3 which comprises of all the government schools on Lagos Island is among the six educational districts in Lagos State.
LCM started operations in partnership with Nigerian Ports Authority in 2005 and has embarked on various corporate social responsibility projects geared toward impacting lives.
