A 42-year-old man, Peter Osahon, who allegedly obtained N10.79 million under false pretences of clearing seven cars, was on Friday charged before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.
The defendant, a clearing agent, who resides at 10, Joseph Emh St., Liberty Estate, Idimu, Lagos, is being tried for forgery, obtaining by false pretences and stealing.
The Prosecutor, ASP Clifford Ogu, told the court that the offences were committed sometime in 2019 at Ikeja.
Ogu alleged that the defendant obtained N10.79 million from MrsModupeolaPotokri under false pretences that he was going to clear seven cars sent to her from U.S.
The prosecutor also alleged that the defendant forged a customer’s document for one of the cars – Honda Accord 2015 model.
Ogu alleged that the defendant failed to clear those cars and did not return the money, hence, the case was reported at the police station.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 287, 314 and 365 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State,2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr J. A Adegun, admitted the defendant to bail of N1million with two sureties in like sum.
Adegun, however, adjourned the case until March 20 for mention.
