The Ogun State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has said investigation is ongoing to fish out the daredevil smugglers following attack of on the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) personnel in Ogun state.
The Public Relations Officer of the command, Abdullahi Maiwada who said this in a statement on Monday, explained that the incident happened at Anigbogo Village, Obada LGA ofOgun state.
He explained that the ugly incident happened when the officers went on information patrol, even as he said that the officers succeeded in intercepting 35 bags of 50kg of smuggled per boiled rice.
"They (Customs Officers) succeeded in intercepting 35bags of smuggled parboiled rice of 50kg each. On their way out of the area of arrest, some unscrupulous elements suspected to be diehard smugglers in their numbers shot sporadically at officers"
Explaining further, Maiwada said that an Inspector of Customs, EL Edeh was shot on the forehead adding that he was rushed to hospital.
"Eventually, one Inspector of Customs, EI Edeh was shot on his forehead. The injured officer was immediately rushed to the hospital for proper medical attention and is currently responding to treatment", he disclosed.
He nevertheless said that the team succeeded in evacuating the intercepted bags of rice.
"Consequently, the team gallantly responded to the aggression and succeeded in evacuating the aforementioned items to the Government Warehouse for safe keeping. Also, investigation is ongoing to fish out the perpetrators of this barbaric act", he said.
According to the spokesperson, the Customs Area Controller in charge of the command, Comptroller Agbara Michael assured the general public that the renewed hostility of the smugglers will not deter the Officers and Men of the Command from discharging their statutory responsibilities.
He further assured the law-abiding members of the public to go about their legitimate activities and that no matter the antics deployed by smugglers, they will surely meet their waterloo.
