The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) said that it has resumed receipts of export laden containers at Lagos ports.
The new move comes about 10 days after it announced a temporary stoppage on such containers as a result of complications from its electronic call-up system and subsequent congestion.
The NPA, had in a statement by its spokesperson, Ibrahim Nasiru, said that the suspension was part of efforts to improve access to, and service delivery at Apapa and Tin Can Island Ports.
“The authority hereby announces a 14-day suspension of export receipts at both ports and all satellite truck parks, with effect from March 22.
“This development is necessitated by the need for consultations with export cargo stakeholders and the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) on the harmonisation of procedures required of owners of this category of cargo”, the statement had stressed.
But, in the latest electronic mail that was sighted by our correspondent and addressed to all subscribers to its electronic platform; eto, the NPA said it “would resume processing exports from today, 1 April 2021. We would schedule trucks to parks then to pre-gates and finally to the ports”.
Admitting that, the spaces available for export containers were limited, the NPA added that, its “schedule for booking for eto would be opened from 12noon till 3pm. We have a limited number of slots to ensure orderly movement towards the ports and in line with our assessment of the current capacity in the port terminals which we are committed to driving up”.
The statement added that, “all booked trucks shall be at respective parks on or before 9pm on 1/4/2021. Take note that bookings to pregates would start from 9pm till 3am while actual movements from the parks to the pregates shall be from 10pm to 4am on 2/4/2021 when we expect all trucks booked to be in the Lilypond pregate”.
