IPMAN Accuses FG Of Owing Marketers N26b

Amidst controversies over the proposed deregulation policy of the federal government, the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN) has alleged that its members are being owed a whopping N26Billion by the government.
Speaking through its national president Alhaji Aminu Abdulkadir, IPMAN stated that the money is in respect of bridging cost. According to him, contrary to the stories that have been making the rounds, the Petroleum Equalisation Fund (PEF) was yet to settle these claims.
Shipping Position Weekly recalls that the PEF recently threatened to publish names of oil marketers who had collected the bridging revenue.
The organisation’s executive secretary, Mrs Adefunke Kasali had said that the move was “ part of the Federal Government’s drive to enthrone transparency and accountability and ensure that petroleum products marketers get up-to-date payments due to them from their various transactions.
“The publication of payments is, of course, to confirm disbursement of funds and their receipts, because when you announce that you have made some payments, marketers do not believe that you actually made them. “We think that now, for every payment we make, we publish names of the marketers, how much they were paid, the banks they were paid into and the time the money hit the account, so that anybody who is in doubt, could confirm,” Kasali said.
But unperturbed by the PEF threat,  the IPMAN boss explained that stressing the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) alone is owing marketers more than N9 billion out of the N26Billion, while private depot operators were also owing about N17 billion.
Giving an insight into how the comes about, Abdulkadir said: “as you are aware, the major marketers get the products from the government and they only pay and reconcile with the government after a month or two while our members get them on a cash  and carry basis,’’ he lamented.
According to him, the group already has a petroleum depot and a liquefied petroleum gas depot in Lagos, adding that “we are also currently establishing a $1 billion compressed natural gas depot in Benin, Edo State as part of investments drive in Nigeria.”
