For the third year running, frontline logistics service providers; Intels Nigeria Limited has been adjudged the best employer in Human Resources Development in Rivers and Bayelsa states by the nation’s foremost training institution – the Industrial Training Fund (ITF).
The award presentation ceremony took place recently at INTELS new corporate head office at the Oil and Gas Free Zone, Onne Port Complex, Port Harcourt. It was received by the general manager, Mr. Simone Volpi, accompanied by other senior management team, among whom was Mr. Adamu Atiku.
In his remark before presenting the award plaque on behalf of the director general of ITF, Prof. Longmas Watmuk, the outgoing area manager, Mr. Akin Akinotan who also led the ITF team which include the new area manager Mr. Zechariah Piwuna, the outgoing head of training Mrs. F.N. Adikwu among others, commended the management of Intels Nigeria Limited for the cordial working relationship with the ITF and thanked them for their total commitment to staff training which falls in line with the Federal Government policy on local content development.
“This uncommon dedication is what the company is reaping the full benefits of by coasting home once again the award of excellence for the Best Employer in Human Resources Development for Rivers/Bayelsa states for 2009, which we are here today to specially present to you”, he said.
The outgoing ITF area manager Rivers/Bayelsa, Mr. Akin Akinotan, recalled that in the history of the ITF administration in the geopolitical zone, this is the first time a company has won the award for excellence for best employer in Human Resources Development for three consecutive years, adding that this calls for celebration and emulation by others.
He also commend the company for the new corporate head office complex at Onne Port and also formally introduced his successor Mr. Zechariah Piwuna, who takes over from him as the new area manager Rivers/Bayelsa states and enjoined the company to extend the same warm friendship and cooperation to him.
Responding, the general manager Mr. Simone Volpi, said Intels is receiving the award with great pleasure and pride, being the first company in the geo-political zone to have won the award for three consecutive years; having won the previous edition of 2007 and 2008 respectively.
“Intels Nigeria Limited found in ITF, a very competent and reliable partner in the training, education and development of our Human Resources, which we consider our greatest asset”, he stressed, even as he added that the company winning the award for a record third time is a good testimony that the company investment policy on Human Resources Development is justified.
According to him, training of staff is a deliberate key policy of the company, and therefore was delighted to be so recognized by the award.
Mr. S. Volpi said he knows getting to the top is tough, but staying at the top is tougher, adding that “we shall leave no stone unturned in our avowed commitment to ensure that our workforce gets the best training both locally and overseas to ensure we continue to maintain our leadership position in the maritime sub sector of Nigeria’s economy”.
INTELS, as the largest and foremost oil and gas support base in sub Saharan Africa parades the most modern sophisticated logistics equipment, among which is the 600T Liebher heavy lift crane and it is operated by well- trained Nigerian employees of the company.
“ To further demonstrate our preparedness not to give up the top position, the company operations is now automated while a world class training academy will soon be commissioned by the company at the Oil and Gas Free zone, Onne port Complex , Port Harcourt”, he said
