In other to further expand its fleet of trucks transporting finished and unfinished goods in the country, the Dangote Group has imported yet another 150 units of trucks, bringing the total number so far imported from year 2011 till date to 1,653 units.
The vehicles have been coming into the Tin Can Island ports in Lagos in batches and the present sets of vehicles came with the fourth batch.
The trucks which are commonly referred to as ‘trailer heads’ were customized for Dangote by a Chinese company known as Howo Sinotruk.

The vehicles were imported into the country from the People’s Republic of China via a vessel called ‘Graceful Leader’ which sailed into the five Star Logistics terminal at the Tin Can Island port in Lagos last week Monday, the 16th of January 2012.
Shipping Position Daily gathered that the brand new vehicles have been transferred to an off-dock terminal named Clarion Bonded Terminal at Alakija, Lagos from where they will be cleared finally to commence logistics services for the company.
Source close to the terminal disclosed that, the Dangote foundation which was established by the chairman, Alhaji Aliko Dangote in partnership with the Bank of Industry (BOI) is aimed at targeting jobs for Nigerians on short and medium term basis.
According to the source, more offices and factories are being established by the conglomerate to expand production hence the need for the importation of more vehicles to support production.
The company produces goods ranging from sugar, semovita, salt, flour, pasta cement and other products.
It will be recalled that in 2011, the conglomerate imported 501 units in the month of May, while in mid June it also recorded the same units of Howo Sino truks.
In July of 2011, the 3rd batch of vehicles came into the country via a vessel called Grand Pavo with a total of 501 units of vehicles which were all transferred to Clarion Bonded terminal before leaving the off dock terminal for operation.
The conglomerate intention of importing a total of 5,000 vehicles from China has recorded 1653 units already.
