History has been made in the Nigerian maritime sector as Shipping Position Weekly Newspaper on Wednesday transmuted into a daily newspaper; Shipping Position Daily, making history as the nation’s and indeed, West Africa’s first daily maritime industry newspaper.
The feat happened about five years after the soar-away Shipping Position Weekly made its debut into the Nigerian maritime industry.
Known for its factual and diversified contents, the weekly newspaper came on board on account of the vacuum that had existed in the maritime industry, bringing with it a rich professional pedigree.
The innovation; Shipping Position Daily is expected to follow the tradition of its predecessor , even as it is expected to be a factual and reliable source of daily information dissemination in the Nigerian maritime industry.
An elated publisher of the newspaper and foremost maritime journalist; Mr Sesan Onileimo was quoted as saying that “what we have done is to fill yet another vacuum, just like we did about five years ago with the birth of Shipping Position Weekly”.
“Shipping Position Daily is a product of more than one year of painstaking research and planning, we are happy that it has become a reality, we will push it in line with our tradition and we pray that it grows and even outlive us, it is our modest but historic contribution to the maritime industry and we are humbled by this”, he stated.
According to him, the Nigerian maritime sector is big enough for those who are interested in genuine contributions. “Our responsibility as a maritime media firm is to continue to be a strong stakeholder, using our media group as a platform for responsible partnership and nation-building”.
He assured that, given the caliber and competence of the editorial team, Shipping Position Daily will continue to fly the flag of professionalism, even as he disclosed that, by the development, Shipping Position Weekly which came out on Mondays has now been rested and added that the daily newspaper will complement the group’s radio programme; Shipping Position Live which runs on Star FM in Lagos.
