Following the recent death of the Managing Director of Global West Specialist Vessels Captain Romeo Itima, the firm's management headed by Chief Government Ekpemupolo; a.k.a, Tompolo has appointed the late Captain’s elder brother; Captain Winfred Itima as the new Chief Executive Officer of the organisation.
Apparently restructuring after Capt Romeo Itima’s death, the company also has a new chairman. He is Senator Emmanuel Diffa.
“Itima was very passionate about his job and his contributions have reduced the rate of oil theft and pirate activities on our waters”, Senator Diffa stated.
The firm's chairman also stated that by the company's operations, the ideals and visions of late Captain Itima would be upheld and passed on to generations yet unborn.
“The operations of the company will speak for itself, because I do not expect any less from a firm that was set with the highest standard but one thing I can say is that Romeo is irreplaceable.”
Senator Diffa who expressed sadness over the sudden demise of Capt Itima at the late master mariner’s funeral in Oporoza in Gbaramatu Delta state last weekend also disclosed that the late Itima came into the company with very high standard, adding that he was also able to carry so many people along, because he did not hide his knowledge from any one that was ready to learn.
He added that painful exit will not change the solid structure of the company that was midwifed by the Captain Romeo Itima, adding that his elder brother will now oversee the operations of the firm.
Confirming his emergence, the new Managing Director; Capt Winfred Itima, assured that he would continue from where his late brother stopped, with an assurance that  high standards would be maintained.
It will be recalled that Itima and his crew were attacked by suspected pirates about three weeks ago when the firm's newly acquired boats went out on a routine patrol and test running of the boats.
The NIMASA delegation to the funeral was led by the agency’s executive director in,Cabotage and Maritime Labour Services Mr Obi Nwabueze, who lamented that NIMASA is yet to get over the demise of Captain Itima.
The NIMASA executive director presented an undisclosed amount of money and a condolence letter signed by the Director General of the agency Mr. Patrick Akpobolokemi to widow of the late Capt Itima.
Mr Nwabueze however assured that, rather than be discouraged; NIMASA will intensify its war against oil theft and pirate activities in Nigeria's coastal waters, for which Capt Itima died.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that  Late Capt Itima was killed about one month ago by suspected oil thieves who opened fire on the boat in which he and some officials of his company and those of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) were traveling at the usually tempestuous Escravos in Delta state.
Capt Itima was the only one that died in the attack.
