There are Indications that reconciliatory moves between the National Executive Committee (NECOM) and the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) may have hit the brick wall. This is even as both sides seem to keep going back and forth as to reaching an agreement to their respective terms.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily last week, a factional member of the Board of Trustees of the association; Prince Taiye Oyeniyi confirmed that all attempts made to reach an agreement with the NECOM have not been successful, because the association’s executives are not ready for true settlement. According to him, the NECOM have derailed from the reconciliatory moves set up by the BoT.
In his words: “We are dealing with people who are not sincere. If you want to eat with the devil, your spoon has to be very long. They don’t believe in true settlement. That is the problem. We started the reconciliatory move, but they derailed”.
On his part the National Secretary of the association, Mr. Babatunde Mukaila noted that the crises which have engulfed the association are not between the BoT and NECOM, but between the factional BoT members. He however assured that the leadership of the association is working towards making peace with the gladiators and ensuring that all matters are resolved soonest.
“The issue is between BoT and BoT. We have decided as well as all other peace-loving members of our great association to give peace a chance and we are working towards that goal”>
He differed from the position of Prince Oyeniyi. In his opinion, “the reconciliation and reconciliatory moves are being followed and we are making progress. We have all decided to give peace a chance. Peace is what we desire and that is what we are giving out now in ANLCA”, Mukaila noted.

Speaking also, the factional Chairman of ANLCA at Tin Can Port Chapter, Alhaji Muhammed Mojeed noted that the leadership of the association are in talks to resolve the crises rocking the association. He noted that the major issue faced is because no one is ready to let go of his ego. Mojeed said with what is on ground, he is optimistic that the association will reach a resolution soon.
“It is only when those leaders arrive at a point before the issues can be resolved. I think they are in a meeting now to resolve the issues. If the current NECOM-conducted elections in the East, Abuja, and other places and they do not have problems there, I think if the BoT does the same thing here, there should not be problem.
“Whatever the BoT decides should stand. Anything that has time or tenure is sacrosanct and before you know it, it will elapse. We are only fighting for what shouldn’t be because of ego. I believe with what is on ground, there is light at the end of the tunnel” Mojeed said.
