The US Coast Guard remained unsuccessful in a second attempt to dislodge the EVER FORWARD, a container ship that ran aground in the Chesapeake Bay on March 13th.
A concerted effort was made by the US coast guard involving five tugboats after dredging around the vessel. A Coast Guard Marine Safety Bulletin was issued, which stated that the idea was to pull the 1000 ft vessel off the muddy floor north of the Chesapeake Bay. It also said that if the attempt failed, they would try again a week later, on April 3rd or 4th after further dredging. Even if the next attempt was to fail, the bulletin stated that some of the containers from the vessel would be removed to lighten the load and make the ship more buoyant.

The EVER FORWARD was headed from Port of Baltimore to Norfolk, Virginia, when it ran aground. FleetMon AIS data shows that the ship was traveling at a speed of 13 knots when it was departing from the dredged shipping channel and came to a halt at around 25 feet of water. The ship’s draft is reported to be 42.6 feet. The vessel has not blocked the flow of traffic in the shipping channel instead of its sister ship, the EVER GIVEN, which has become infamous for blocking the Suez Canal for days.
