Maritime stakeholders are set to converge for a roundtable discussion on the reintroduced International Cargo Tracking Note (ICTN), a policy that has generated widespread debate within the industry.

The event, organized by the Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN), is scheduled for Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the MARAN Secretariat in Apapa GRA, Lagos, starting at 10:00 AM.

The Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) are expected to present papers on the ICTN, shedding light on its implementation and implications. Additionally, key industry players, including the Shippers’ Association of Lagos State, the Importers’ Association of Nigeria, and the Sea Empowerment Research Centre, will engage in discussions to address concerns and explore pathways for the effective rollout of the policy. Also expected to contribute is the Managing Director of Widescope Group, Dr. Segun Musa, who will provide insights on the subject matter.

Speaking on the significance of the roundtable, MARAN President, Godfrey Bivbere, emphasized the need to resolve the controversies surrounding the ICTN.

“Since the news of the planned reintroduction of the ICTN emerged, there have been widespread debates between its proponents and opponents, each defending their stance. This issue has divided the maritime industry. As the leading maritime beat association in Nigeria, MARAN is taking the initiative to bring all stakeholders together under one roof to find a lasting resolution. Our sector is crucial to the nation’s economy, and it is imperative to reach a consensus that fosters its growth,” Bivbere stated.

Meanwhile, invited guest speakers and stakeholders have confirmed their readiness to attend the program and share their perspectives on the ICTN. The forum is expected to serve as a platform for constructive dialogue, helping to clarify the policy’s objectives and ensuring a smooth takeoff for its implementation.
