The Nigeria Customs Service, Kaduna Command has played host to the National Coordinator, Northwest Zone for the control of Small Arms and Light Weapon. Air Vice Marshal, Haruna Mohammed (rtd).
The courtesy visit was to strengthen the synergy in the continuous fight for an arms-free society, especially the Northwest Zone.
According to the Northwest Coordinator, the Nigeria Customs Service is playing a significant role in controlling the importation of Arms into the country.
“About 700 Small Arms and Light Weapon (SALW) have been handed over to the centre at the Zonal level and 1500) SALW with 14,000 ammunitions were received at the national level from the Nigeria Customs Service”, he revealed.
The Customs Area Controller, Kaduna Command, Comptroller Yakubu Salihu, who welcomed the Coordinator of the Northwest Zone, said the Command is more committed to the fight against the proliferation of weapons, especially during the yuletide and election season.

“I am delighted with the calibre of people in the Northwest zone, fighting against this course, information is vital in this collaboration. It will help in tackling the issue of proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons into the country.” Yakubu added.
The Centre for Control of Small Arms and Light Weapons was established on the 3rd of November, 2022 by President Muhammadu Buhari to promote an arms-free society and control the proliferation of SALW.
