Blaming Economic Reasons, NAHCO Increases Cargo Handling Tariff

The Nigerian Cargo Handling Company (NAHCO) has increased fees payable on handling of all air cargoes landing or leaving the nation’s airports.

 

According to a notice of the increase which was obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, the new tariffs increase which range from 100 per cent to as much as 400 per cent is effective from April 1, 2023.

 

Even though the signed notice bear no name or designation, it was on the official letterhead of the aviation company.

 

Under the new arrangement, general cargo/bank consignment will attract a new tariff of N163.2 per kilogramme; up from the N65.3, while demurrage charge per kilogramme has been increased from N13 to N26.

 

Similarly, handling live animal, perishable, dangerous goods and printing materials and diplomatic cargo will now cost N205; up from N85 per kilo, while courier now costs N190 from N76.

 

Also, valuable/strong room storage, and freezer will now attract a fee of N62.5 and N205 per kilo, respectively; that is up from N25 and N52, respectively.

 

Vault/Bullion services has been jacked up from N585 to N1462.5, while ‘minimum charge’ is now N10,000 from the previous N2,600.

 

In the new tariff, handling human remains will now cost N150 per kilogramme, up from N60 per kilogramme. Similarly, export cargoes cost has gone up from N39 to N97.5.

 

According to NAHCO, late registration will now cost N25,000 as against the previous cost of N9,100. Reregistration cost has also gone up from N4,420 to N25,000
