The Nigeria Customs Service said on Tuesday that it received a whopping 573,519 applications in the just concluded 2024/2025 recruitment exercise carried out online via its recruitment portal.
The Federal Government had late last year approved the recruitment of 3,927 Customs officers into the lower and officers’ cadres.
But, giving a breakdown of the application, the National Public Relations Officer of the service, Abdullahi Maiwada said applications were received across the board, “including candidates with university degrees, Higher National Diploma and even secondary school certificates.
He clarified that, “we have the support staff that are professionals, and we have the general duty.”
Specifically, he explained that, “for the general duty, we have three categories of ranks. For the general duty under the Superintendent Cadre, we have 249, 218, 000 candidates that applied,” he said.
Speaking further, he added that, under the Superintendent Cadre Support Staff, 27,722,000 with HNDs and university degrees applied.
He said for the Inspector Cadres, those expected to apply are applicants with National Certificate for Education or National Diploma. He said 115, 634 applied for the general duty, and for support staff, 12, 952 applied.
