The much-expected Mandatory Professional Development programme for registered freight forwarders in the country kicked off in Lagos on Saturday.
The programme which is conducted by the Nigerian Institute of Freight Forwarders (NIFF) on the authority of the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) is a prerequisite for the issuance and renewal of the newly introduced annual practicing license for freight forwarders in the country
In his opening remarks at the one day training programme, the President of NIFF; Dr Zeb Ikokide pointed out that the programme was structured to enable participants to acquire contemporary practical competencies to operate in the global freight forwarding environment
He disclosed that the programme will soon be repeated to accommodate other Lagos-based freight forwarders while arrangements are in top gear to also run the programme in Port Harcourt and Kano venues.
Harping on the benefits inherent in the programme, the NIFF President told the participants that the essence is to provide a structure for registered freight forwarders to acquire necessary practical competencies to operate in a freight forwarding environment.
According to him, “by combining the strategic abilities acquired in their academic studies with the practical forwarding competencies acquired through this programme, such individuals will be able to manage a wide range of freight forwarding functions. They will also be able to add value to the strategic planning required to build on the freight forwarders’ core functions in creating structures which will provide customers with the integrated management of international supply chains they will need”.
He also added that the training also enables its participants to fulfill the pre-requisite for the issuance and renewal of your practicing license with the CRFFN, just as he added that, in addition, “those completing this programme will qualify to go for the certificate course in freight forwarding. This is the qualifications which are required to qualify you to enter for the Diploma programme in freight forwarding which is awarded by the International Federation  of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
