The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Widescope International Logistics Limited, Alhaji (Dr.) Segun Alade Musa, has charged the newly elected leadership of the Maritime Reporters’ Association of Nigeria to preserve the association’s longstanding reputation as a credible voice in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
Dr. Musa gave the charge in Lagos on Tuesday when the newly inaugurated MARAN executive council, led by President Olayinka Onigbinde, paid him a courtesy visit at his office as part of its post-election stakeholder engagements.
Rather than focusing solely on the outcome of the association’s May 7, 2026 election, the Widescope boss stressed the strategic role MARAN has continued to play in shaping discourse within the maritime and logistics sector over the years.
According to him, the association has remained relevant because of its consistency in promoting industry dialogue, professionalism and constructive engagement between operators, regulators and the media.
“MARAN has always occupied a unique place in the maritime industry. It is not just an association of journalists; it is a platform that has contributed immensely to the growth of the sector through informed reportage and stakeholder engagement,” he stated.
Dr. Musa noted that his relationship with MARAN spans several years and dates back to the early stages of his involvement in the industry, particularly during his time as Chairman of the NAGAFF Airport Chapter.
He recalled that the association provided him with visibility and a platform to contribute to policy conversations in the sector through its roundtable programmes and industry events.
“I am particularly attached to MARAN because the association gave me an opportunity to interact with stakeholders and project ideas at a time when we were pushing important conversations in the industry,” he said.
The logistics expert also reminisced on his participation as a guest speaker at one of MARAN’s major industry programmes held in Ibadan over a decade ago, where discussions centred on Inland Container Depots and port development initiatives.
Commending the association for sustaining its relevance over the years, Dr. Musa described the recent election that produced the new executive as one of the most peaceful and orderly exercises witnessed within the maritime sector in recent times.
He said the smooth transition reflects the maturity, unity and institutional stability that MARAN has built over the decades.
The Widescope CEO further applauded the decision of the new executive to immediately begin consultations and relationship-building with stakeholders across the industry, describing the move as a demonstration of humility and responsible leadership.
“You can see that this administration understands the importance of partnership. For the entire executive to embark on this visit shortly after the election speaks volumes about their commitment to inclusiveness and industry collaboration,” he added.
Dr. Musa assured the association of his continuous support, urging the new leadership to uphold the ethics and professionalism that have distinguished MARAN within the Nigerian media landscape.
He maintained that a strong maritime press remains essential to national economic growth, especially at a time when issues surrounding trade facilitation, port efficiency, shipping development and regional integration are gaining increased attention.
The visit ended with both parties reaffirming their commitment to deeper collaboration aimed at promoting the development of Nigeria’s maritime sector and strengthening the relationship between industry operators and the media.
