Nigerian Navy Forward Operating Base (FOB) FORMOSO, Bayelsa, on Monday, handed over two suspected armoured cable vandals to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
The suspects were apprehended over suspected vandalism of armoured cables at Akakumama Community, in Nembe Local Government Area.
The Commanding Officer, Capt. Sunday Haruna, said that the suspects were apprehended while vandalising the cables which supplied electricity through OANDO Flow Station to Akakumama Community.
Haruna further said that the suspects were caught following a credible intelligence report on the activities of vandals around the community.
“We swiftly dispatched a patrol team to the area, and the suspects were intercepted in the process.
“On sighting our patrol team, one of the suspects escaped while two others were apprehended,” he said.
He said that the swift response and breakthrough underscored FOB FORMOSO’s commitment to safeguarding critical infrastructure and maintaining security within the maritime environment.
“If criminal acts are left unchecked, the wellbeing of the people will be hugely affected. As a force, we are committed to combating all forms of economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region.
“We have handed them over to NSCDC, Oil and Gas Unit in Bayelsa for further investigation and necessary legal actions,” he said.
