The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reiterated the need for stronger collaboration with the media to promote public awareness, border security and national development.
This was part of the resolutions at the Customs Zone B media engagement organised by the service in Kano on Monday.
The event held under the theme: “Building Synergy Between the Media and Customs for Enhanced Stakeholders’ Awareness and National Development.”
The Acting Customs Controller of the Kano/Katsina Area Command, Usman Adamu, commended the National Public Relations Unit for organising the engagement, describing it as a platform to strengthen cooperation between Customs and the media.
He said the media remained a critical partner in informing citizens about the activities of the service and thanked journalists for their support to the Kano/Katsina Area Command since he assumed office.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Tahir Balarabe, said the engagement aimed to strengthen collaboration between the service and the public through effective information dissemination.
According to him, the engagement would help ensure that accurate information on Customs operations reached Nigerians and improved public understanding of the service’s activities.
The National Public Relations Officer NCS, Abdullahi Maiwada, a Deputy Comptoller General of Customs thanked media practitioners for their continued support and commitment to the service.
Maiwada described the media as an important partner in national development through public sensitisation and awareness creation, adding that the theme reflected the evolving nature of modern Customs operations.
He said the Service had intensified efforts in information technology and technology-driven operations to improve efficiency and service delivery, and stressed the need for accurate dissemination of information to the public.
He said that Nigerians relied on credible information for their daily activities, making the media an indispensable stakeholder in the operations of the service.
Maiwada further said the Service maintained working relationships with media organisations nationwide and disseminated information in different languages to ensure wider reach and understanding.
He urged newsmen to sustain their support and professionalism in promoting the activities of the NCS for national development.
