Polaris Shipping Orders Four Ore Carriers At Beihai Shipbuilding

CSSC Beihai Shipbuilding formally signed a construction contract for four 210,000 dwt tri-fuel powered ore carriers with South Korean shipowner Polaris Shipping.

The Newcastlemax design Is the flagship vessel of the new-generation Sirius Series independently developed by Beihai Shipbuilding.

Designed to Newcastlemax dimensions, the vessel adopts an ethanol/methanol/fuel oil tri-fuel propulsion system and reserves space for future retrofitting to ammonia or LNG power. With ethanol as its primary fuel, the ship can cut greenhouse gas emissions by roughly 90% versus conventional heavy fuel oil vessels.

It integrates a full suite of energy-saving technologies to slash operational carbon emissions across the board, including rotor sails for wind-assisted propulsion, variable-frequency drives, high-voltage shore power and shaft generators. Its specially engineered cargo holds are capable of carrying Group A liquefaction-prone solid bulk cargoes specified under the IMSBC Code, paired with a comprehensive structural stress monitoring system to guarantee hull structural safety throughout voyages..

Beihai Shipbuilding holds the world’s largest orderbook for large bulk carriers, with delivery slots for some vessels scheduled as far out as 2031.

The newbuilding contract for a series of bulk carriers between Beihai Shipbuilding and Cosco Shipping Bulk took formal effect on 31 July. Fueled by this deal, Beihai Shipbuilding’s overall orderbook has hit a historic high of more than 100 vessels, with aggregate deadweight tonnage exceeding 23 million dwt.
