Says: I Foresee Crises In ANLCA
The immediate past president of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Chief Ernest Elochukwu has opened up on the festering face-off in the association, saying a constitutional crises is imminent.
Chief Elochukwu is considered as a key figure in the face-off over elections into the association’s national executive committee, told Shipping Position Daily yesterday that, the outgoing national executives being led by its president; Prince Olayiwola Shittu has performed sufficiently well enough for a second term.
I will recommend him (Shittu) for a second term. Asked if he would also be willing to play a prominent role in the re-election campaign team of the incumbent President as he did in 2010, he said: “Campaign for Shittu? If he wants me to, why not”.
He however quickly pointed out that two reasons would make it difficult for him to function in that capacity. He explains that, a lot of insinuations are going round and bad blood is being created so much that his genuine intentions may be misconstrued. Secondly, he explained that, in 2010, he was simply former president, but now he is a member of the association’s board of trustees (BoT).
The former ANLCA president who spoke from Port Harcourt, Rivers and whose name has been linked to the crisis that is currently rocking the association told our correspondent that, there is yet no crisis in the association, but cautioned that unless the right thing is done, there is the possibility of a crisis.
When asked what he thought the ‘right thing’ is, he answered that doing the right thing is using the format of an annual general meeting (AGM) to conduct the coming elections.”This what ANLCA constitution says, and anything out of that is unacceptable”.
He confirmed that the association’s BoT has sought the advice of a lawyer about the correct format to adopt for the national executive committee’s elections.
According to him, the only agreement that was reached at the association’s recent emergency national executive council meeting was that elections into the national executive committee would hold in April.
He stressed that: “I can tell you that every member of the board is in agreement that the elections must hold in accordance with the constitution of ANLCA which stipulates that it must be by AGM”.
He said in the event that the AGM is not adopted for the elections, he foresee trouble ahead of the association.
“I foresee crisis, I fear for ANLCA”, he warned.
