Even as arrangements are in top gear for the much expected elections into the various chapters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF), a landmark mark joint meeting of members and contestants at both the Tin Can Island and PTML chapters held last week in Lagos.
Facilitated by the acting chairman of Tin Can chapter, Chief Uche Nwabude, the meeting drew participants from the two chapters. It was also attended by the association’s deputy national president, Mr Eugene Nweke, who also doubles as NAGAFF’s electoral committee boss.
In his opening address, the acting chairman of Tin Can chapter pleaded with members not to relent in their efforts in moving the association to a greater height, even as he acknowledged that the association was faced with challenges during the 10 years of its transition and subsequent stabilization.
He lamented that some of the past leaders who were chosen to head the chapters ran the association as a personal business, he consequently told contestants who are already warming up to fill chapter executive positions that the era of irresponsive leadership was over and that it can no longer business as usual, because leaders will no longer be selected, but elected to run the affairs of the association.
Nwabude advised members to prepare their minds on who they want to steer the ship of the chapters as campaign is on going in various chapters, he also advised contestants to shun rancour and acrimonies in the election process, saying “win or lose we are still brothers as there are always opportunities in the association for everyone”.
Also addressing members of the two chapters, the deputy national president expressed satisfaction with the efforts of Tin Can and PTML chapters, even as he declared that there is a rapid wind of change in NAGAFF.
According to him, NAGAFF is out to disseminate information to members, “we don’t give money to members in NAGAFF, but we empower our members as well as create opportunities for members to prove his/her worth”.
Nweke advised members and contestants to stay away from unruly behaviours during the election period and assured them that the electoral commission is unbiased.
