AHEAD OF ELECTIONS: ANLCA Lifts Ban On Electioneering Campaign

The Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has officially lifted ban on electioneering activities towards its coming national executive committee elections.

The ban was lifted officially on Monday by the Association Electoral Committee (ASECO).

ANLCA has equally announced that the election would be by Annual General Meeting (AGM) where all members of the association with valid licenses would be allowed to participate in the voting process. This is however, a total deviation from the past three national elections of the association which was done by collegiate voting.

Confirming the development to Shipping Position Daily yesterday in Lagos, Secretary of ANLCA ASECO, Mr. Oladipo Bolade Lawrence said that the election time table would soon be released and elections would be conducted within the next 90 days.

"The ban on campaign was lifted officially on Monday, within now and the next 90 days, the time table for the elections will be out, the present NECOM has exactly 90 days to vacate office and we don't encourage vacuum in our association", he told our correspondent.

"The present NECOM would hand over to the incoming one within the specified time" he assured.

Meanwhile, the National Publicity Secretary of ANLCA, Dr. Kayode Farinto has also confirmed that the election would be by ‘AGM’.

He told Shipping Position Daily yesterday in Apapa that this decision was reached at the last NEC meeting of the association.
Farinto confirmed to our correspondent officially that he would contest for the Vice Presidency of ANLCA.

In the same vein, former Chairman of Tin Can Chapter of ANLCA, Prince Kayode Oyinlola also confirmed to Shipping Position Daily yesterday that he is also  contesting  for the Vice presidency of the association.

Speaking, Farinto said, "before April 14th, there should be an election, at our last NEC meeting,  we agreed that the election should be conducted by AGM and by this we still stand, this means that the owners of licenses would be the ones to vote, collegiate means that only the chapter executives would vote"

"I am going to contest for the vice presidency of ANLCA, I am setting up a committee already and the committee would be inaugurated next week.

So far, I am not aware of any opponent, but one thing I am sure of in ANLCA politics is that it is whoever the people give their mandate that would win", he declared.

On his part, Prince Oyinlola told our correspondent that: "I am confirming to you that I would be coming out as Vice President of ANLCA, the position should be occupied by someone with experience and so far so good, with my experience in the association, I know I can handle it. I have been an interim chairman in Tin Can for six months and I have also been an elected chairman for two terms"
