Akutah Applauds Tribune’s Tola Adenubi for MIMA Award, Urges Professionalism in Maritime Journalism

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), Dr. Pius Akutah, has commended Mr. Tola Adenubi, the Maritime Editor of Nigerian Tribune, for his outstanding performance at the 2025 Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA).

Dr. Akutah gave the commendation during a courtesy visit by Mr. Adenubi, who also serves as Assistant Business Editor at Tribune Newspapers, to the NSC headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, on Tuesday.

The NSC boss described the award as a well-deserved recognition of professional excellence in maritime journalism, emphasizing the need for credibility and in-depth reporting in an era where social media has blurred the lines of responsible reportage.

“This award is one of the little ways of saying thank you to people who have done well; who have excelled in their field of journalism. Today, everyone is becoming a journalist because of social media platforms that give them the opportunity to write and critique. But the professional journalists who follow up stories and dig into the truthfulness of what they are writing will always be there to excel.” Dr. Akutah stated.

He stressed the continued relevance of traditional media, noting that its professionalism and editorial standards remain the benchmark for credible journalism, particularly in critical sectors like maritime.

Advising media professionals, Dr. Akutah urged journalists to uphold the principles of balance and integrity in their reporting.

“Whatever story you want to come up with, always remember that the story can damage someone and can also make someone. So always try to balance your story so that at the end of the day, people will always see the truth in what you are reporting,” he said.

He added that journalism should not be about putting out content just for its own sake, but about protecting the identity and integrity of the writer and the profession.

The visit was marked by warm appreciation from both sides, as the NSC continues to champion credible partnerships with the media for improved maritime awareness and national economic growth
