A Presidential candidate in the coming election of the National Executive Committee Members (NECOM) of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA); Sir Kingsley Emenike Nwokeoji, has said the association under the present administration has lost its dignity, respect and its collective strength.
This is even as he said he was coming to bring about the restoration of everything that has been lost since the exit of the immediate past President of the association; Prince Olayiwola Shittu
Nwokeoji who served as the Vice President to Prince Olayiwola Shittu spoke in a telephone conversation on Shipping Position Live radio programme over the weekend, where he disclosed that he decided to tag his campaign “Restoration”, owing to the fact that ANLCA needs restoration, even as he alleged that the association has lost everything.
He said: “The theme of our campaign is restoration, a lot of things need to be restored, we know where we are coming from after Shittu’s administration, and things started nose-diving. Right now we have lost our peace, our dignity, respect and our collective strength as a pressure group.
“So, we have lost everything, so the first thing we are coming to do is to restore peace, get everybody on board and move in one direction to achieve a common goal”.
He said he decided to contest for the position of the association’s President to improve the lot of members, even as he insisted that the situation of things has gone from bad to worse.
“We decided to step in, because rather than things improving, things have been going from bad to worse, to see how we can play our own role in improving the lot of the agents”, he said.
Speaking on the success of his campaign in Lagos, he said, “We met with several groups and invited them for the flag-off and we are happy for the feelers we are getting so far, Thursday was the flag-off for Lagos and the Western zone, it was grand”.
Nwokeoji said if elected the first thing he will do is to restore peace back to the association this is even as he promised to carry everybody along in his restoration plan and consult past presidents for advice.
“If God places us there (ANLCA Presidency) the capacity of a leader is to muster everybody both those that voted for you and not to achieve a common purpose”, he said.
When asked if he would need to consult Prince Olayiwola Shittu who was President of the association during his time as Vice president, he said: “What is wrong in seeking consultation from those who have been there before you, I will go beyond that even. As I am in Lagos here, I am visiting not less than three past presidents. We need all these people, we still have the National Council of States in Nigeria where they bring in past leaders to rub minds. So I don’t see anything wrong in consulting past leaders”.
