A former Director General of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA); Mr Temisan Omatseye has been exonerated of all corruption charges filed against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The embattled former DG has also been asked to return to NIMASA and resume office.
Shipping Position Daily recalls that, the Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia of the Federal High Court in Lagos had sentenced Mr Omatseye to five years in prison on May 20, 2016, after finding him guilty of 24 out of 27 charges bordering on bid rigging and contract splitting levelled against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
Omatseye however appealed the ruling through his lawyer, Edoka Onyeke, arguing that he was persecuted and not prosecuted.
Edoka said that though contract splitting exists in the law, the approval above threshold does not exist.
