Even as elections into key chapters of the association may hold in December 2015, the Board of Trustees of the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has said that it is not happy because it's President; Prince Olayiwola Shittu is taking key decisions without recourse to the BOT members.
This is even as the association has mandated all contestants in the elections to compulsorily pay N50,000 as money used to secure ANLCA's national secretariat that was commissioned last year.
Speaking with Shipping Position Daily on Monday, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of ANLCA; Aare Sanni Shittu said that the relationship between the board and the National Executive Committee (NECOM) is not smooth because the President; Shittu is not carrying them along.
Aare Shittu said that the NECOM has decided not to work together with the BOT for reasons he refused to divulge.
"The relationship between the board and the NECOM is not fantastic at this time; it all depends on the holder of the office in case of NECOM and the board"
"The President is not carrying the board along and we are not happy about it, we would take a decision but this is not the time to do it, we all know that every tenure has an ending, we would not talk now because we have high regards for that office and not Prince Olayiwola Shittu per say" he said.
He lamented that, "most times, the NECOM is on its own, they don't consult us in taking decisions"
Aare Shittu also argued that as bad as former board chairman, Chief James Idonigie was back then the NECOM was able to work with him.
"So what is so great about the offense of this present board that is so much that cannot be managed by the NECOM", he asked.
Speaking on the coming elections, he said that the board is looking forward to working together with the NECOM on the coming elections, but it is yet to hear anything from them.
But when he was contacted by our correspondent yesterday, the ANLCA President said that whoever is alleging bad blood between his NECOM and the BOT is being mischievous and trying to fan embers of mischief.
Shittu confirmed to Shipping Position Daily that the relationship between him and his BOT is very cordial and that they usually meet all the time.
"You don't need to blow embers of mischief, I don't know the action we have taken that has injured the ego of the board members, I speak with them all the time"
"I expect the person making the allegation to specify the decision we have taken and we didn’t carry them along, and what do they mean by carry along? We consult with them more often; somebody is doing this out of mischief"
"Nothing has been brought to my knowledge. If there are issues, they should be bold enough to bring them up. There are internal platforms to settle rifts, and facts must be brought forward" he said.
Investigations carried out by our correspondent on the ANLCA elections showed that some of the contestants have raised alarm over the N50,000 levy placed on them.
Some members of the association who pleaded anonymity confided in Shipping Position Daily that among other things, they were mandated to pay N50,000 as part of the money used to acquire the ANLCA National Secretariat.
They wondered why the levy is coming, arguing that former customs boss, Dikko had assisted the association in securing the secretariat.
"Corporate members pay N5,000 for chapter dues and N10,000 for National secretariat dues as annual subscription, and building fund of N50,000 paid to national secretariat"
