Despite the importation of more than 150 units of fairly used trucks for about two years at the Sunrise Motor Park, auto dealers and importers have been mandated to evacuate their vehicles from the ApapaOshodi expressway in order to allow construction giants; Julius Berger carry out rehabilitation work in the area.
The Director, Sunrise Motor Dealers, Pastor Uzor, explained that the order came from the Federal Ministry of Works last weekend in order to effect a change on the road which he said has been a major problem to Julius Berger since inception of the construction in 2011.
“The ongoing removal of the fairly- used trucks out of the park will enable the construction company to relocate some of their equipment and machines to the spot for the sake of proximity .It is also on the part of the dealers to comply for the’ ring road’ to have a new look”, he told Shipping Position Daily.
The ongoing construction of the road at the moment has crippled the sales of vehicles at the park as the used cars for sale are being moved backward.
According to him, importers and dealers have been complaining on the directives even as he stressed that Lagos State Traffic Management Authority [LASTMA] is expected to assist in the area of towing vehicles that are not in good condition.
It was also gathered that majority of the trucks in the fairly used auto market are not inn good condition as most of the vehicles have spent close to three years without being moved out of the place.
Source at the auto market told our correspondent that some of trucks that have been imported and ‘abandoned’ at the park for many years and they can not be driven out of the place unless through the use of towing vans.
The source that prefers anonymous expressed high hope on sale as the trucks are gradually making way out of the park stressing those cars will be visible to road users who have interest in them.
According to him the construction of the road is a welcome development as customers at the automobile market have been complaining about the stagnant water around the premises.
He said that it is unlike that the trucks will make their way back to the park as the Lagos State government also has plans to beautify of the place.
One of the engineers from Julius Berger [name withheld] said that a 12- foot pit will be dug in front of the auto market to enable the flow of water from Coconut down to Sunrise before it could be channeled into the lagoon.
The engineer explained that they are to carry out a final survey of the place in order to fix the ring road for commuters, dealers and vehicles in general.
