The Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) has confirmed the postponement of the much-expected National Executive Committee (NECOM) elections, which were originally scheduled to take place on July 5, 2023.

The association’s electoral committee (ASECO) explained that the decision to delay the elections was due to unforeseen circumstances.

In a letter sent to all members of the association and signed by the ASECO chairman ;Nze Aloysius Emeka Igwe, he expressed regret over the postponement, but assured all aspirants and ANLCA members of the commitment to organise a credible and acceptable NECOM election.

He said the electoral committee is currently working on a new timetable and intends to notify all members promptly.

Additionally, ASECO took the opportunity to address the campaign activities leading up to the elections.

The committee appealed to all aspirants and their supporters to maintain a peaceful atmosphere and refrain from using inflammatory languages or engaging in aggressive campaigning on ANLCA platforms.

Recognizing the importance of fostering harmony within the association, the ASECO emphasised the need to preserve the delicate peace currently being enjoyed in the association.

It added that ANLCA members should await further communication from ASECO regarding the rescheduled NECOM election.

“The association encourages all stakeholders to remain patient and cooperative during this period of adjustment, as ASECO endeavors to ensure a transparent and inclusive electoral process.

“ANLCA, being one of Nigeria’s prominent customs agents associations, plays a vital role in the country’s trade and logistics sector. The upcoming NECOM election holds significance for the association’s future leadership and its ability to represent the interests of its members effectively”,the statement added.

“ANLCA members are encouraged to stay engaged and stay tuned for further updates as ASECO strives to deliver an election that upholds the principles of transparency, fairness, and credibility”.
