Bulk Carrier ‘Ince Inebolu’ Refloated in Greece

The MV Ince Inebolu was refloated by its own means today after running aground September 5th on the Greek island of Astypaleas.
The Turkish-flagged bulk carrier was not taking on water and no pollution was observed once the ship detached from the rocky shore, according to a statement from the Hellenic Coast Guard. The vessel was then escorted by a tug to Skala Astypaleas where it was safely anchored.

The 52,372 DWT Ince Inebolu ran aground as it sailed from Yemen to Romania and was unladen at the time of grounding. With the ship’s forepeak extending inland by 4.5 meters, concerns grew over the 1,388 metric tons of fuel oil, 70 metric tons of diesel and almost 25,000 liters of lube oil aboard the vessel, however the Hellenic Coast Guard reports that no pollution has been observed.
No injuries were reported among the 22 crewmembers.
The incident is under investigation by the Greek Maritime Accident Investigation Office.
