CIS Sets To Float Maritime Polytechnic In February 2018

The Certified Institute of Shipping (CIS) has said that it would be floating a maritime Polytechnic by February 2018. The name of the university is Coastal Polytechnic.

Speaking with Shipping Position Daily last week, Registrar of the CIS; Dr. Alex Okwuashi boasted that the institute is not begging for recognition from Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) as other upcoming academies are doing, he said that the academy is already recognized and has carved a niche for itself in the maritime sector.

He said that the Coastal Polytechnic would be flagged-off in February 2018 after it must have been given the required accreditation by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE). He said that a team from the Federal Ministry of Education was also on an inspection tour of the CIS facility located at its expansive permanent site along Badagry expressway.

After the inspection, Okwuashi said the team were impressed and gave the institute as pass mark.

He told Shipping Position Daily that “CIS is already accredited; we are not begging for accreditation, students that passed through the school have proven their mettle. Last week, we received a visiting team from the Federal Ministry of Education, they wanted to come and see what is happening, and when they got here they were overwhelmed, they said that this school is bigger than many federal institutions, they promised to tell the minister about it”

“There is always issues of NIMASA not recognising some institutions, we at CIS are not begging for recognition, we are already recognised, if it comes to maritime training, we ought to be there, next year February by the grace of God, we would float the polytechnic; Coastal Polytechnic, we have finalized issue on that, we are just waiting for NBTE” he said
