The Malta-flagged container vessel CMA CGM Pelleas briefly ran aground in Southampton, United Kingdom, on 9th April after veering toward a waterfront structure during departure maneuvers. No injuries were reported in the incident.
The CMA CGM Pelleas diverted from its course and approached a wall in front of waterside flats before running aground. The incident took place shortly after the containership left its berth during midday.
The tugboats were promptly dispatched and swiftly refloated the containership. Associated British Ports (ABP), operator of the Port of Southampton, confirmed that the situation was quickly resolved and the containership safely returned to its berth.
The incident has been referred to the Marine Accident Investigation Branch for inquiry into the circumstances leading to the grounding.
The CMA CGM Pelleas is currently moored at Southampton Port and is scheduled to arrive in Rotterdam Port, Netherlands, by 12th April.
