In his efforts to control the spread of Coronavirus, the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC) Col Hammed Ali (Rtd) has donated hand sanitizers, face masks, gloves among others to the Tin-Can Island command of the service.
Ali however mandated commands to ensure that they install water tanks for hand wash at the entrance of their commands.
The Deputy Controller of Customs in charge of the medical center at the Customs Training College, Ikeja, Dr. Bello Kehinde, said this in an exclusive chat with Shipping Position Daily on Thursday when the medical team deployed by the Comptroller General of Customs came on a sensitization visit at TinnCan Island command of the service.
Kehinde said that the tour started with the Zonal headquarters at Zone A, adding that they preached extensively on the need for personal hygiene.
"And the CGC has given us some materials that we actually need which we will be giving to our clinic here and make sure it is adequately used. The CGC has given hand sanitizer, face mask, glove and liquid soap. Anybody assessing the command has to wash his or her hands outside before coming"
Kehinde however urged the command to ensure that the material donated by the CGC is properly ultilised.
He added that the material donated will be used by officers of the command while the water tank will be used by anybody trying to assess the command.
He reiterated that the essence of the water tank is to ensure that before anybody enters the command, he/she must have washed his hands properly.
"So we have decided to inform the command that at the entrance of the command there should be places where they will install water container so that everyone coming in can wash their hands and use sanitizer"
"Because as someone is coming to see you, you don't know what the person is having. And sometimes we even check hands with people you can't say no and we know that prevention is better than cure so we have to prevent all these things"
According to him, "Today because our CGC is a man of welfare he cares for the officers and their families as well. He then decided that we in the medical should go round to all the customs formations in the Zonal level starting from Zone A"
Kehinde nevertheless warned against stigmatizing people who tends to have some symptoms of the sickness especially when they have not be proven to be carriers of the sickness.
