A new Commissioner of Police in charge of Ports Authority Police (Western) Command, Apapa, Lagos; Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba has officially assumed duty as the 32nd Commissioner of Police.

This follows the redeployment of his predecessor; Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, to the Lagos State Command.

A press statement signed by the Command spokesman, ASP Isaac Hundeyin noted that CP Maikaba, a seasoned officer with over three decades of experience, is set to enhance security operations at Nigeria’s ports, urging stakeholders to offer their full support for effective trade facilitation.

Maikaba, who joined the Nigeria Police Force in 1994 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Bayero University, Kano.

With over three decades of service, he has attended numerous professional training programs, including the Advance Detective Course and the Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos. He has also received strategic leadership training from the Department for International Development (DFID) and participated in various community policing courses.

Throughout his career, CP Maikaba has served in a wide range of administrative, operational, and investigative roles, including as Divisional Police Officer in Kano and Katsina State Commands, Commander of the Joint Border Patrol in Maje (Kebbi State) and Seme (Lagos State), and Commander of the IGP Special Taskforce on Petroleum and Illegal Bunkering at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He has also held Deputy Commissioner of Police positions in FIRS, Zonal CID Zone 1 Kano, and Operations in Kaduna and Delta State Commands. His international experience includes serving as part of the United Nations contingents to Kosovo in 2001 and Sudan in 2006, where he earned two commendation medals.

With his extensive background across various formations and units, CP Maikaba according to the Command’s spokesman brings a wealth of experience to his new role at the Ports Authority Police Command.

The Spokesman noted that the New Commisioner’s primary focus will be ensuring maximum security to facilitate trade at Nigeria’s ports. He however called on critical maritime stakeholders and the business community to offer their full support and cooperation.

CP Maikaba, an avid reader and football enthusiast, is happily married with three children.
