CRFFN COMMENCES VERIFICATION OF ASSOCIATIONS

• May Deregister AREFF, NAFFAC, Council of MD

The much – expected verification of the claims of freight forwarding associations by the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) commenced last week amidst speculations that the trio of Association of Registered Freight Forwarders (AREFF) , National Association of Freight Forwarders and Consolidators (NAFFAC) as well as the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents may not scale through.

Our correspondent had confirmed earlier in the week that the CRFFN may not be very comfortable with what an insider called the non-independence of the three associations and that it is becoming quite clear that only the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) and the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) are really on ground.

Although, we could not establish any premeditation in the timing of the verification which kicked-off with visit of verification officers to the national secretariat of ANLCA, our source however confirmed that never-the-less the CRFF team will still check out details of the other associations.

Our source disclosed that the CRFFN team comprised of Chief Peter Obih as the
Chairman, Dr Chidi Onyemelukwe and Chief Teddy Ifezue as members.

Members of the committee were reportedly conducted round the ANLCA secretariat by the head of the national secretariat and national secretary- Dr Oparah Emma Ogu, even though our correspondent could not ascertain what the committee looked out for.

Our correspondent however learnt that the CRFFN team could not access the association’s certificate of incorporation and other relevant documents which are reportedly still in the custody of its board of trustees’ chairman, Chief Henry Njoku.

Sources at the verification however disclosed that the association’s national president, Prince Olayiwola Shittu directed the committee to verify the certificates of registration through Chief Njoku.

It is expected that the CRFFN verification team will be visiting the national headquarters of NAGAFF for a similar exercise this, after which it is expected to be the turn of AREFF, NAFFAC and Council of Managing Directors.

While both AREFF and NAFFAC do not have much to show in terms of national secretariat and spread, the Council of Managing Directors operates from NAGAFF headquarters in Apapa, Lagos, since its leadership crisis started a few months back.

Its pioneer national president, Mr Lucky Amiwero who was reportedly removed is still in court to challenge his removal from office.
