The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria [CRFFN] has finally inducted about 4000 freight forwarders at a ceremony that was attended by leaders of the profession from across associations.
Speaking at the event, Registrar of CRFFN, Mr, Mike Jukwe said that the Act that established CRFFN makes it clear that only those that are inducted will be allowed to practice the profession.
Jukwe said that the profession has, by the induction, joined other professional bodies that share common goals in other to achieve a particular objective so as to move the country forward.
‘’The Act that established the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria is very clear that at the end of the induction, those that we inducted today are the people eligible and allowed to practice in our industry  and to carry all the business of freight forwarding in Nigeria’’.
He said that after the induction, registered freight forwarders will be provided with mechanism for compliance as freight Forwarding will be a core course in the tertiary institutions across the country. He said, ‘’ in the month of March, the certificate in freight forwarding will commence some of the higher institutions in the country’’.
The Registrar explained that the next step by the council is in anticipation of building capacity of its members as heads of institutions will assist in manpower training which he said will be a continuous exercise.
He also assured the inductees that their names will be gazette. ‘’All which you are going to abide with in carrying out your legitimate business, this register will be gazetted and it will go into the Federal Republic of Nigeria official gazette. In other words, it becomes a law and the names that will be on that gazette are legally bound by law that is recognized in this profession as the pioneer of those who practice the profession’’, he noted.
However Jukwe said that machinery will be put in place in order to enforce compliance at the ports.
In his opening address, Chairman, Governing Council of CRFFN, Aare Hakeem Olanrewaju also stressed that it may be difficult for unregistered freight forwarders to practice in Nigeria any longer.
According to him, “if you are not registered with us, you cannot practice freight forwarding any longer in Nigeria and you cannot go into the port again ‘’.
He explained that anybody who parades himself as a freight forwarder and he is not registered is a tout.
