The Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) has said that its courses; Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Higher Diploma in Supply Chain Management, do not require accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Registrar of the CRFFN; Sir Mike Jukwe affirmed this in a statement sent to Shipping Position Daily last week in Lagos, saying that the Council has already been granted accreditation by the world body of Freight Forwarders; International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA) to offer these courses.
Jukwe was reacting to questions asked by our correspondent following doubts expressed by the Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA) that it was yet to partake in the on-going training programmes organised by the CRFFN, because they are not recognized by any institution in Nigeria and not by the NUC.
It would be recalled that the CRFFN in partnership with the Redeemers University had since began the training of freight forwarders. So far, members of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) Association of Registered Freight Forwarders of Nigeria (AREFFN) and NCMDLCA have shown enthusiasm towards the programme.
But in his response to ANLCA’s reluctance, Jukwe said that: “These are international professional qualifications recognized worldwide particularly in the 158 member countries of FIATA, including Nigeria represented by CRFFN. The qualifications do not require the accreditation of the National Universities Commission (NUC)”
“CRFFN was granted the accreditation for the Diploma in Freight Forwarding in 2012 in United States of America and that of the Higher Diploma in Supply Chain Management in 2013 in Singapore by FIATA and they are offered in Nigeria through the CRFFN Accredited Training Institutions, including the Redeemers University” he said
Jukwe also explained that in an effort to domesticate the FIATA International Professional qualifications by introducing the National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management in Nigeria, the Curriculum Development Planning Workshop was held by the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) in conjunction with the Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology (NITT) and CRFFN in NITT, Zaria from Monday, 17th to Wednesday, 19th August, 2015.
The CRFFN Boss said that hopefully, this will be achieved in 2015 so that ND and HND in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management will be among the courses to be offered at Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by JAMB for admission into Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Monotechnics.
He said that thereafter, CRFFN will be working with the Universities accredited by CRFFN to gain the accreditation of the National Universities Commission for degree programmes in Freight Forwarding and Supply Chain Management.
Therefore, as stated in your sms under reference, those "Customs Brokers saying that the CRFFN – Redeemers University training is not approved by NUC and therefore it’s not tenable anywhere” are acting out of ignorance.
An authoritative source within ANLCA had last week told Shipping Position Daily that the association have not commenced with the training because it is still in discussion with the Redeemers University over the curriculum.
Expressing the fears of the association, the source said “we have gotten the venue, but the course must be accredited, we don’t want to run a course that at the end of the day it is not accredited, we cannot waste our money and time and at the end of the day the course is not recognized and it becomes useless”
“The certificate is going to be accepted by the CRFFN, but what about other institutions, especially the Nigerian University Commission? This is why the training has not started, our members are however very willing and eager to learn”
“We don’t want a situation whereby somebody will carry this certificate and yet they will tell you it is not tenable, we want the Redeemers University to ensure that once the certificate from that programme is issued, it is tenable anywhere in the world” he said.
