The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has reaffirmed its commitment to a robust partnership with the Department of State Services (DSS).
This commitment was articulated by the Acting Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi during a visit to the Director-General of the DSS, Yusuf Magaji Bichi, at the DSS Headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday.
Adeniyi expressed his gratitude to Director-General Bichi for the warm reception despite the short notice, underscoring the significance of the collaboration between their agencies in bolstering national security.
He stated that, “the Nigeria Customs Service extends its hand in friendship, seeking your support to enhance border security across the nation.”
Adeniyi also commended Director-General Bichi for enabling senior customs officers to participate in specialized training at the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS), emphasizing that this development has fortified their capabilities in fulfilling their constitutional duties.
In response, Director-General Yusuf Magaji Bichi lauded the unwavering dedication of Comptroller-General Adeniyi in managing the affairs of the Customs Service since his appointment.
Director-General Bichi emphasized the pivotal role of teamwork in addressing security challenges, highlighting that no single agency can effectively tackle these issues in isolation.
He further underscored the significance of sustaining the Customs-DSS partnership as a transformative force in securing the nation’s borders, assuring continued intelligence sharing to support Customs operations.
Director-General Bichi also pledged to provide DSS facilities for the training and development of middle cadre customs officers.
In a show of commitment to their pledges, Director-General Bichi promptly instructed relevant departments to initiate discussions with their counterparts at Customs to facilitate the necessary cooperation, and he conducted a tour of critical infrastructure alongside the Acting Comptroller-General before their return to Customs Headquarters.
