The Western Ports Authority Police Command has joined the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) in commemorating the maiden edition of the National Police Day, a week-long event set to highlight the role of law enforcement in maintaining national security and fostering community engagement.

This was contained in an official press statement signed by the Command’s spokesman, ASP Isaac Hundeyin which was made available to our correspondent.

According to him, under the leadership of Commissioner of Police Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola, the command has lined up a series of activities across Apapa and its environs. The celebration, which kicked off on April 2, 2025, will culminate in a grand parade and procession at the Eagle’s Square, Abuja, on April 7, 2025.

As part of the activities, the command has scheduled town hall meetings with relevant stakeholders at the command headquarters to strengthen security collaborations. A security sensitization walk is also planned from the Apapa Port main entrance to Tin Can Island Port, aimed at promoting awareness and vigilance among port users. Additionally, the command will lead a cleanup exercise in designated areas around Apapa to enhance environmental safety and hygiene.

In a bid to give back to the community, the Ports Authority Police (Western) Command will also conduct a medical outreach at the General Hospital, Apapa. The outreach will provide free medical consultations and essential healthcare services to residents, reinforcing the police force’s commitment to community welfare.

The National Police Day celebration serves as a platform for the Nigeria Police Force to engage with the public, showcase its operational readiness, and honor the sacrifices of officers who have dedicated their lives to ensuring the nation’s security. Some of these officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and the event provides an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions.

Olanrewaju Olawale Ishola expressed gratitude to all critical maritime stakeholders for their unwavering cooperation in maintaining port security. He urged all port users to continue supporting the command by reporting suspicious activities and adhering to extant laws and safety precautions.

The Ports Authority Police (Western) Command noted that it remains committed to enhancing security within the nation’s ports and ensuring a safer business environment for all stakeholders.
